why we love Europe
For Australians, time spent backpacking through Europe is basically seen as a rite of passage in most young people's lives.
And really, can you blame us? For a start, Europe is about as far away from our homelands as you can get, and the chance to wander through ancient history, eat croissants for breakfast, and get to know some seriously diverse cultures in one area is entirely charming and captivating.
We've now called this part of the world home for nearly 18 months, and the magic of being able to jump on a short flight to a place where we don't speak the language, don't recognise anything on the menu and can lose ourselves in a maze of history-filled streets and thousand-year-old history definitely hasn't worn thin yet.
Europe, you're a dream.
Cobblestones, cafes, culture - the magic of Europe really needs no introduction.
But the beauty of this continent is it's diversity, and while everyone else is visiting the major tourism players, there are so many more delights to discover if you're willing to take a step off the well-beaten tourist trails. Like Bucharest, the grungy capital of Romania (touted to be the 'new Berlin'), or the rugged arctic tundras of Swedish Lapland.
Either way, one thing's for sure: come to Europe, prepare to be awestruck.
